Adil Anwar is gunning for a British title shot after defeating Tyrone Nurse in the final of the Prizefighter Light Welterweights II at Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall on Saturday night.
Leeds man Anwar and Huddersfield fighter Nurse were unbeaten going into the 23rd edition of Matchroom Sport’s last man standing tournament so there was plenty at stake in the all-Yorkshire final, with local bragging rights, both boxers ‘0’s’ and the title and £32,000 winner’s cheque.
Ashley Theophane retained his British light-welterweight title in Peterlee but had to overcome a stern test from late sub Ben Murphy, who was up on the cards before being stopped late on.
Theophane was under pressure from the first bell but seemed to pace himself throughout the fight and upped the tempo in the latter stages to stop Murphy in the 11th round.
Heavyweight Fury knocked out unbeaten Brazilian import Marcelo Luiz Nascimento in the fifth round of their contest, after dropping his man in the first and then going on to nullify him with the jab.
