It’s official, James DeGale will fight British super middleweight champion Paul Smith for his title on December 11. The show, which celebrates Frank Warren’s 30th anniversary in boxing, will take place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
This will be a significant step up in class for DeGale who is tasked with wresting the British title from Paul Smith in his hometown. The Liverpudlian has won 29 of 30 fights and will not be looking to give up the title anytime soon after his war with Tony Quigley to win it last October.
With only three days to go till their October 16 WBC heavyweight title clash in Hamburg, Germany, Shannon Briggs has been stoking the fire with bold claims of retiring Vitali Klitschko. What’s more, claims of a bout with younger brother Wladimir if he beats Vitali puts him on a parallel contract with British and Commonwealth champ Derek Chisora, who has signed a similar deal to face Wladimir on December 11 and then Vitali if he wins.
British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Derek Chisora has accepted the offer to fight Wladimir Klitschko on December 11. The Londoner will challenge for the IBF and WBO heavyweight titles after only 14 pro fights and if successful will go on to face the older Klitschko, Vitali, for the WBC belt.
