Sturm stops Zbik to retain title

Felix Sturm retained his WBA middleweight super title after opponent Sebastian Zbik pulled out of their fight in Cologne before the 10th round on Friday night.

Zbik made the better start at the Lanxess Arena but began to tire midway through the bout, with the defending champion looking fresher despite taking some heavy blows early on.

Sturm and Zbik make weight for grudge match

WBA middleweight super champion Felix Sturm and challenger Sebastian Zbik both made weight for their title clash tonight at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, live on BoxNation (Sky 456, Virgin 546).

Both fighters looked to be in excellent shape as Sturm came in at a trimmed and ready 159.32 lbs while Zbik weighed in at 159.84 lbs for the grudge match of Groves-DeGale proportions that has been brewing in Germany.

Murray issues statement on Felix Sturm

Middleweight contender Martin Murray has issued a statement calling on WBA super champion Felix Sturm to be ‘fair’ and offer him a rematch having announced his next outing for April 13.

Murray who fought Sturm to a draw back in December revealed he had yet to hear from the champion’s camp about a rematch, claiming he could bring 1000 fans with him to the German’s hometown.

Murray fights Sturm to a draw in Germany

British middleweight Martin Murray came agonisingly close to clinching a world title as a pulsating bout with WBA champion Felix Sturm ended in a draw.

After 12 tight rounds in Mannheim, Germany, one judge awarded the fight 116-112 to Sturm, another 115-113 to Murray and the third scored it 114-114.
