Zab Judah claimed the IBF light-welterweight title with a seventh round knockout victory over South African contender Kaizer Mabuza at the Prudential Center, New Jersey.
It was an impressive performance by Judah who turned back the clock with a display of speed and defensive prowess, scoring a stunning knockout 59 seconds in the seventh round.
Alvarez who weighed 151.8lbs will lose $70,000 of his purse for failing to reach the agreed weight. It is reported $35,000 will go to Matthew Hatton, who was on the money at 149.6lbs, and the other half will go to the California State Athletic Commission, who sanctioned the fight.
‘Super’ Zab Judah took himself out of the running to face Amir Khan next, after winning a purse bid to fight for the IBF light-welterweight title, yesterday afternoon.
Judah will now meet South African contender Kaizer Mabuza for the vacant IBF title in March at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
