Hatton vs Alvarez for WBC belt

Matthew Hatton will now fight Mexican sensation Saul Alvarez for the WBC light-middleweight belt on March 5.

The belt, which was recently vacated by Manny Pacquiao after beating Antonio Margarito at a catchweight to claim it, has been sanctioned for the meeting at the Honda Center, California by the World Boxing Council.

Wayne Rooney works the bags

England and Man United star Wayne Rooney recently revealed he gets on the bags to get rid of frustration. In fact he was a keen boxer till the age of 15 when he had to give up to pursue a career in football.

'I used to do boxing and football,' Rooney told Champions magazine. 'I was training every night with one of them and when I got to about 15, Everton said I had to stop boxing if I wanted to carry on playing football. I had a good chance of making the first team, so I stopped.

Pacquiao to fight in May

Reports in the Philippines suggest that the next Manny Pacquiao fight date has been moved back from April 16 to May 7.

The pound-for-pound king and politician is said to have requested the delay so as to be able to fulfil his congressional duties as the representative of Sarangani province in south Philippines.

Carl Froch triumphs over Arthur Abraham

Carl Froch defeated Arthur Abraham in a punch-perfect unanimous points victory to regain the WBC super-middleweight belt just one fight on from losing it to Mikkel Kessler in April.

Froch was awarded every round by two of the judges, and 11 by the other to take the fight 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109 on the judges’ cards. His shutout performance was accentuated by keeping Abraham at distance with a sharp judge and varied combinations around the body and head.

Matthew Hatton to win for brother Ricky

Matthew Hatton has vowed to come through his European title defence tonight against Swiss challenger Roberto Belge and put the smile back on brother Ricky’s face.

The younger Hatton told the Manchester Evening News that he had been receiving advice from Ricky, who recently returned to the gym after a stint in rehab for drink and depression problems.

Khan: ‘I would never fight Manny’

Light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has ruled out any chance of fighting stable mate Manny Pacquiao in the future.

Speaking in the latest issue of SEEN Sport Magazine, Khan said, ‘I would never fight Manny as we have the same trainers. It’s just an honour to train and spar with him because Manny is one of the best fighters in the world pound-for-pound.’
