Josesito Lopez upsets Ortiz

Josesito Lopez pulled off a huge upset win by halting Victor Ortiz in the ninth round of their welterweight clash on Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Lopez stepped in as a replacement after Andre Berto failed a drug test and he bravely stood and traded with Ortiz, who was ahead on the judges’ scorecards when he quit the fight due to a broken jaw.

Tarver fails drug test from Kayode bout

IBO cruiserweight champion Antonio Tarver has tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid drostanolone, from a sample taken before his June 2 defence against Lateef Kayode at the Home Depot Center in California.

Tarver fought his younger opponent to a draw that night but the result is likely to be changed to a no-decision after the veteran failed the urine test administered by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Forbes.com named Mayweather its highest-paid athlete over the last year. Mayweather earned $85 million (£54m), knocking golfer Tiger Woods out of the top spot that he has held since 2001.

Golden Boy line up Alvarez vs Ortiz

Golden Boy announced yesterday that WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez will defend his title against former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on September 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Alavarez's original opponent was Paul Williams but after Williams was left paralyzed from an unfortunate motorcycle injury, the fight was obviously canceled.

Having announced his replacement opponent for his June 23 date at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, Victor Ortiz took to the campaign trail this weekend.
