Cleverly gets world title shot
Light-heavyweight contender Nathan Cleverly has finally been handed a world title shot against WBO champion Juergen Braehmer.
The bout is scheduled for April 2 at Wembley Arena and is set to feature Frank Warren Promotions’ new man John Murray alongside a possible world title eliminator for unbeaten welterweight prospect Kell Brook.
Braehmer, who has a record of 36 wins and two losses, has only fought once outside of his native Germany and was forced to take the fight after pulling out of a unification fight WBA title-holder Beibut Shumenov last month.
Should Cleverly come away with the WBO belt he’ll become the 11th Welsh world boxing champion and second Welshman after lightweight legend Freddie Welsh to win British, Commonwealth, European and world belts.
