Macklin says seven-month lay off won’t affect him
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Macklin who has not fought since December last year revealed that the prospect of fighting for a title was the only incentive he needed to produce the goods come fight night.
‘I have had the best sparring and the toughest schedule from trainer Joe Gallagher,’ said Macklin. ‘Billy Graham was a hard trainer, he got Ricky Hatton to a world title, and Joe is ten times tougher than him.
‘But the so-called experts say that I will be like a footballer who has been out of action for seven months and on his first day back in the team does well to start with, but cannot handle the full 90 minutes.
‘That is true for footballers but not for me. I know my strengths and weaknesses. What is at stake is massive and that in itself makes me a different animal. Winning is all that matters.’
