Nathan Cleverly wins prestigious award
Nathan Cleverly added another trophy to his collection on Wednesday night when he picked up the prestigious Boxing Writers Club ‘Young Boxer of The Year award.
The Club’s annual dinner was held in London’s salubrious Savoy Hotel, fresh from a £220m makeover, where a clearly delighted Clev was given his award in front of a crowd that included Frank Bruno, Dave Green, Barry McGuigan, David Haye, Junior Witter and many more.
Cleverly said, ‘this is a fantastic moment for me and I would like to thank everyone who has voted for me’. Past winners of the illustrious accolade include Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, Ryan Rhodes, Naseem Hamed and more recently Kell Brook.
It caps a fantastic year for the 23 year old Cefn Fforest fighter having also won the European light-heavyweight title and beaten Karo Murat in a WBO title eliminator. Cleverly also found time this year to graduate with a BSc in Mathematics from Cardiff University.
We will see Nathan in action again on December 11 in Liverpool, when he fights for the interim WBO title
