Arum: 'No more big guys for Pacquiao'
Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has given the clearest sign yet that the Filipino would move back down the weights for any remaining fights in his record-breaking career.
After seeing the damage Pacquiao suffered in his junior-middleweight contest with Antonio Margarito, Top Rank chairman Arum said, ‘At this point, I don’t want to put Manny in with another big guy, a guy even bigger than Margarito. It’s not that he couldn’t beat them or that he couldn’t handle, them, but it’s like a great racehorse. I can’t keep putting him in with bigger, stronger guys without wearing him out.
‘That fight really affected him physically. He took a lot more beating in that fight than he did in his others. He got hurt. He’s banged up a little bit. It’s tough giving away that kind of weight and size.’
The revelation throws the dampeners on any possible clash with the winner of Sergio Martinez vs Paul Williams. The two middleweights face-off his weekend in a rematch of their epic encounter last year and have been widely touted as the only possible candidates out there for Pacquiao, outside of Floyd Mayweather.
